TikTok has turned songs into No. 1 hits, birthed micro-trends like tomato girl summer or girl math and created a shared lexicon of jingles, phrases and vignettes among its 1.2 billion users, 70 per cent of whom are Gen Z, according to the video platform. Here, Vogue Business will share weekly trend insights using exclusive data from TikTok with commentary from some of the platform’s leading creators. 2024 December Fashion hashtags It’s the high holiday season, and scores of creators are recommending #ReformationJeans for their fit and quality. The brand has soared on TikTok this year, with 1.1 million likes and 181,600 followers. #DonatellaVersace has made waves in recent weeks, after stepping out at The Devil Wears Prada premiere in London’s West End at the beginning of December. Like Lindsay Lohan, audiences are celebrating how great she looks. Since, the designer has driven a surge in views and posts on TikTok. It wouldn’t be holiday season without holiday sweaters, and this time around, tacky ones are trending too. Whether you go festive or funny, you can find inspiration on TikTok this month, with views up across #HolidaySweater and #TackyChristmasSweater. This year, it’s all about small luxuries. And TikTok users are recommending small gifts for the festive season. From beauty and fashion to food gifts and homeware, thousands of accounts have posted collages of the best #SmallGiftIdeas. November Creators Founder of Canvas Beauty brand @IAmStormiSteele has soared on TikTok this year, sharing her journey as a brand founder, providing beauty tips and live streaming sales of her products, including her viral body glaze. Likewise, popular TikTok Shop creator @SimplyMandys has had a stellar, year promoting her beauty brand of hair and skincare, garnering millions of likes. @Omo.Oroje has captured the hearts and minds of the TikTok community with her scenic and heartwarming videos, as she stands in front of various scenes across London, in front of a red bus. Audiences find humour in her unwavering expression and consistency across videos, garnering her millions of views and likes. @OgeCheese is an ultra-relatable food, beauty and lifestyle creator who’s built a solid following on TikTok with her honest reviews, product and food trials and diaries. Her unpolished content has garnered over 1 million likes. Rising film journalist and interviewer @EmanKellam has interviewed stars from Denzel Washington to Keke Palmer. And with only a smattering of videos on TikTok, he's already hit 1 million likes as audiences gravitate to his authentic style, most notably when he tries to teach American talent British slang. It’s been one hell of a year on TikTok. But with the trend cycle moving at breakneck speed on the platform, we rarely look back more than a few weeks. This week, however, as TikTok unveils its ‘Year in TikTok’ report, we break down some of the biggest overarching themes and ideas of 2024, based on global TikTok data. Craft in action In our hyper-connected, tech-driven world, young people are resisting by making things with their hands. From crochet to ceramics, quilting to carpentry, creators are taking to the platform to show their works from conception to completion. Newstalgia As we know, the younger generations love nostalgia. But latest trend newstalgia is dominating the platform this year, blending the old with the new, taking historical references and giving them a modern twist. Think Zendaya stepping out in a new Louis Vuitton x Murakami bag, inspired by the original collab in 2003. Heritage stories With the rise in at-home DNA tests, young people have been all about heritage in 2024, as they explain their origins and share their personal family histories. Likewise, brands have leaned into their heritage, telling the stories of their founders to educate audiences. Bag charms As part of the wider chaotic customisation trend we’re expecting to flourish in 2025, Gen Zs have been buying and making bag charms to adorn their accessories. From coin purses to teddy bears, beads to jewellery — the more eclectic the better. Trending songs Coldplay — ‘All My Love’ Video creations: 282,900 Video examples: After Coldplay launched an in-app TikTok feature for their new album Moon Music, fans have been creating couples content and tributes to friends soundtracked by the band’s new single ‘All My Love’. Yeah Yeah Yeahs — ‘Maps’ Video creations: 2.1 million Video examples: Yeah Yeah Yeahs’s classic 2003 record ‘Maps’ is experiencing a resurgence thanks to two popular TikTok trends: the ‘Wait dance’ (a classic, quick-hit TikTok dance routine) and the ‘Face Puzzle’ effect (which is, admittedly, slightly creepy, as users apply features to their blurred, blank faces). Jack Johnson — ‘Upside Down’ Video creations: 798,000 Video examples: It’s a big moment for noughties songs on TikTok. Jack Johnson’s ‘Upside Down’ is back in the mainstream after its ’06 moment in the sun. TikTok users have been making videos where they spin their friends and loved ones — you guessed it — upside down to the track. Trending hashtags TikTokers are taking on the role of elves this holiday season. Organised by lifestyle and aesthetic, over 247,000 users are sharing purpose-built #GiftGuides for everyone from ‘homebodies’ to ‘material boys’. Not sure where to start with this year’s #BlackFridayDeals? Good thing TikTokers are laying the groundwork. Users are sharing their research and predictions for the biggest sale of the year — Cos, Alo and The Outnet are among the brands to keep an eye on. And so it begins! The #ChristmasDecor hashtag has begun climbing the ranks on TikTok. Whether it be table-scaping inspo, the lights on London’s Regents Street or a bow-clad Christmas tree, users are already rallying for festive cheer. On a less festive — but by no means less entertaining — note, the #SubtleForshadowing trend is gaining traction on the platform. The content captures a situation gone wrong, sharing both the before and after, in humorous video mash-ups of friends and family. Queue the #DramaticSadViolin. This ironic trend has caught the attention of celebrities and users alike, with @TaylorLautner having apparently “won this trend” through his video reigniting the Team Edward versus Team Jacob debate from The Twilight Saga. Trending hashtags #InitialNecklace - They’ve been ubiquitous in films and popular culture for decades, but the initial necklace is back! Ahead of the holidays, TikTok users are sharing their favourite styles for gifting (and receiving). #CollegeOutfits - It’s autumn, when collegiate fashion comes into its own. And college kids are turning to TikTok to share their college outfits and provide style guides for students, that span every aestheitc. The Gap resurgence is in full swing, or at least on TikTok. The brand’s #Gap hashtag is surging this month, while new hashtag #HowYouWearGap is growing rapidly on the platform, as users share styling tips on the brand’s latest products. Miu Miu’s business doubled again this quarter, so it’s no surprise the brand is soaring on TikTok. The #MiuMiu hashtag has seen consistent growth this year, while new hashtag #MiuMiuHoliday is gaining steam in recent weeks. The DIY fashion movement continues to thrive on TikTok, as users embellish and customise their own garments or even make their own clothes from scratch, with the hashtag #handmadeoutfit. For now, the numbers are modest, but the hashtag is growing rapidly worldwide. Trending Creators UK-based creator @MariaEJ0 has built a large following in recent months. Through her entertaining takes on no-makeup-makeup tutorials, tips for young people at university, and various travels around the UK, she is both relatable and funny in sharing the highs and lows of life with her growing fan base. @RvssianRoulette creates authentic content based on her life with family and friends through to her beloved cat. Her down-to-earth videos have attracted an audience that come to her page to laugh, watch hair tutorials and listen to her fun rants about everyday life. @KimberleyCumberbatch is a London-based creator and presenter, sharing entertaining snapshots into her life — from kids cartoons to relationships. She has a popular series called ‘PJ Problems’ where her fans share their issues, often relating to inclusivity and discrimination, and Kimberley plays the role of Agony Aunt. Disability advocate @Alex1Leg beat cancer twice before he was 21. He lives fearlessly, cherishing every moment, inspiring us all to create bucket lists, stay optimistic and believe in a brighter future. #BucketList #BeatCancer #Inspiration #TikTokForGood Toni Chapman, or @TheMoodyFoody, is a culinary creator based in Miami who draws inspiration from her Afro-Latina heritage to create a broad range of easy-to-follow recipe videos. Some of her most popular content is for busy people on the go, including freezer door breakfast sandwiches and meal prep bowls. October Fashion hashtags #PinkLululemon — The Pink Lululemon girl (a girl who wears pink Lululemon attire) has become an archetype on TikTok, as users show off their Pink Lululemon fits or spot the ‘Pink Lulu’ girlies out in the wild. It speaks to the enduring pilates and brunch aesthetic we’ve seen among Gen Zs and millennials this year, and the rise of balletcore, which showed up on the SS25 runways. #BSF — As with many millennial terms, the BFF is over, at least according to Gen Z. Now, it’s all about #BSF content on TikTok, as users share best friend videos, from dance routines to memory montages. #Halloween2024 — It’s spooky season! And TikTok users are taking to the platform to share costume inspiration, party decoration ideas, makeup looks and more. #TikTokShopHolidayHaul — It might only be October; but TikTok users are already thinking about the holidays, kicking off their holiday shopping on TikTok Shop and sharing inspiration for stocking fillers or fashion and beauty items. #BadWitch or #GoodWitch? Ahead of the cinematic release of Wicked on 22 November, the movie itself and its legions of fans are sharing clips from old versions of the musical, plus behind-the-scenes content of upcoming movie leads Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. Surf Curse - Disco Surf Curse's 2019 sleeper hit 'Disco' is enjoying a fresh resurgence, following in the footsteps of their breakthrough hit 'Freaks’ that went viral on TikTok during lockdown. Trending hashtags After the popularity of showrunner Ryan Murphy's Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on Netflix, lead actor #NicholasChavez (who plays Lyle) has gone viral on TikTok. Users share the burgeoning actors red carpet appearances, as well as clips and edits of him in action from the hit drama. In Europe in particular, audiences are enjoying ‘cartoonifying’ themselves, their friends or partners, into Disney or Pixar characters. From couples snaps to friend portraits, the trend is taking off, under hashtags #efeito3d or #multiaverso. On TikTok shopping season starts early, and users are sharing content in anticipation of #tiktokcybermonday, breaking down the products they’re planning to buy. As the US presidential race continues to heat up, last week saw Vice-President candidates JD Vance and Tim Walz face off the #vpdebate. TikTok users in the US have jumped on debate content, sharing clips and showing their support for either side. With his informative, enthusiastic explainer videos visiting places for the first time, creator @PhilC8 has garnered millions of likes on TikTok in recent months. His relatable tone and fast paced, reportage style videos visiting everywhere from Monaco to Bicester Village, Clacton to Bratislava, perfectly feed TikTok’s appetite for educational and comedy content. Already, pub chains and tourism boards are tapping him to promote certain destinations. Followers: 951.4k Likes: 44 million Was Anne of Cleves a minger? That’s one of the many questions posed (and answered) by fast-growing Tikok influencer Katie Kennedy aka @TheHistoryGossip. Her face to camera videos retelling historical tales in the context of teenage drama, using modern language for comedy values, are garnering traction on the platform. And as she increasingly posts personal and lifestyle content in addition to her historial videos, she’s becoming even more of a name to know. Followers: 523.4k Likes: 14.3 million @PhenixSoul @phenixsoul, aka Lyric Mariah Heard is an up-and-coming model, creator and disability advocate, whose viral videos include turning London into her own personal runway, changing perceptions around modelling or rating which shoes fit best with her prosthetic,. Her viral catwalk style videos have amassed over 80 million video views, according to TikTok. Followers: 295.7k Likes: 6.6 million Film and TV presenter @ZeeWhatIDid has shot to fame recently, for her behind the scenes content from the film industry, including interviews with actors (and sometimes famous cats); funny red carpet content and tongue-in-cheek lifestyle videos depicting the realities of being a film and TV journalist. In a world where film journalism can be a little serious, her fun and energetic tone provides some light relief for the TikTok community. Followers: 550.8k Likes: 20.9 million We’ve had dalgona coffee, mini pancake cereal and everything from scratch. But the latest food craze to hit TikTok in Europe? Spuds. Or more specifically, jacket potatoes, as creators @TheSpudBrothers inspire a new generation to elevate their jacket potato game. Their jacket potato stall in Preston, UK has queues around the block, as the duo post near-daily content on their latest recipes and daily specials. Followers: 2.9 million Likes: 95.5 million Trending songs Hanumankind and Kalmi — ‘Big Dawgs’ Hanumankind and Kalmi’s viral sensation ‘Big Dawgs’ blends South Asian influences with Western hip hop, delivering a genre-bending anthem that embodies resilience and ambition. Video creations: 510,000 Video examples: Creators that haven’t encountered Indian hip hop are taking to TikTok to showcase their initial reactions and share chest-thumping dance routines. Blood Orange — ‘Champagne Coast’ Originally released in 2011 on Blood Orange’s album Coastal Grooves, ‘Champagne Coast’ has undergone a huge resurgence thanks to the TikTok community, leading to it breaking into the UK Official Singles Top 20 chart. Video creations: 40,000 Video examples: Creators have embraced the track’s nostalgia vibes, pairing it with romantic edits and travel highlights. One popular trend sees creators reflecting on their life journeys, with captions such as “Did we win the lottery?” against a backdrop of footage of their younger selves. Charli XCX ft. Billie Eilish — ‘Guess’ This unexpected collaboration brings together Charli XCX’s hyper-pop edge and Eilish’s alternative flair, leading to a viral sound that’s inspiring dance routines and creative edits, alike. Video creations: 140,000 Video examples: Eilish’s new verse has encouraged fans on TikTok to embrace their unique aesthetics and be confident. Listeners are using the dynamic new sound to soundtrack everything from bleached eyebrow experiments and iconic thrift store encounters to essential beauty regimes. September Trending hashtags 2017 called. Gifs are back, at least according to TikTok, where users are making makeshift gifs by posting the same quick clips on repeat in one video, with the hashtag #giftok. Mixed in there are gift recommendation videos — not part of the trend, but top of mind for many as summer wraps and we gear up for the holiday season. TikTokers are feeling nostalgic, thinking about #growinguptoofast. Some are posting content of their kids, while others are thinking back to their own childhoods. Speaking of nostalgia, rumour has it that Vans music festival #Warped Tour is coming back in 2025. It hasn’t been held since 2019, but users have been digging up old footage in anticipation of the festival’s comeback. The TikTok community continues to lean into authentic, storytelling-centred content. #Thingshappen is trending, as users simply talk about things that have happened and will happen – good, bad and otherwise. Memes reign supreme. The #Mynewcharacter meme’s dog character is making the rounds on TikTok, as users re-post the meme with different edits and voiceovers, some even cosplaying as the dog. Skinny jeans are back! And #tightjeans are trending on TikTok as users style their favourite pairs, or give tips on how to put on jeans that feel a little too snug. The NFL is back! And so is Taylor Swift, who has attended every Kansas City Chiefs game since the season began a few weeks ago. In her wake, football outfits are trending on TikTok, as fans plan their match day looks. A new colour is trending. The #blueeaesthetic is dominating TikTok over the last couple of weeks, with the community dressing in shades of blue from head to toe. Cosy season is upon us! And loungewear is naturally en vogue. Tiktok users are sharing their best sweats, PJs and athleisure. Crocs continue to trend among Gen Z, who are now dubbing themselves the #crocgang. Filipino Feasts The #FoodTok community continues to serve up foodie inspiration — and the latest trend is something that we can all get behind. We’ve seen a growing interest in #FilipinoFood, currently ranking ninth out of the top 10 international cuisines for TikTok users in the UK. Creators such as @PerezFamily181 and @ItsPatHerb have been shining a light on this delicious cuisine, from sharing popular recipes such as chicken inasal, to testing out the best Filipino food and drink destinations. With Filipino restaurants expanding across the UK this year, we’re predicting #FilipinoFood is on the rise. It’s not just about trending cuisine on #FoodTok, but ‘tupperware tech’, too. Fuelled by #SnackBox purchases, people are sharing the many ways to prep and pack snack boxes, adding fun ASMR elements to the mix. It’s safe to say we’re sold on this genius way to organise, mix and match your favourite treats. #BookTok This year continues to be a huge one for books lovers on TikTok. Authors Lisa Jewell and Talia Hibbert have persisted in dominating bookshelves after winning big at the TikTok Book Awards in July. Holly Jackson and Alice Oseman have also taken off on the platform with their works being adapted to the small screen; A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder was adapted by the BBC in July, while the next series of Heartstopper will land on Netflix in October. Romance keeps its crown as the biggest #BookTok genre, and we’re seeing a growing number of niche sub-genres within the category. #ForcedProximity and #GrumpySunshine books focus on two characters changing their minds about each other, while #BillionaireRomance is all about rich love interests. We’re even starting to see sports-based romance, like #HockeyRomanceBooks emerge — the limits do not exist when it comes to the creativity of #BookTok. British Core We’ve had a brilliant summer of sport and music in 2024. From England making it all the way to the Euro final, to the success of Team GB and Paralympics GB in Paris, this year has given us a reason to come together and embrace #BritishCore. More recently, the world was taken over by the return of #BritPop, after the long-awaited Oasis reunion — it’s no surprise the ’90s mod aesthetic is on the rise. #BritishCore embraces everything, from cult UK style to local history. And it’s not just a growing trend we’re seeing in the UK. Across the pond, they’re also leaning into the Best of British, including filming humorous content of themselves seeing key British landmarks for the first time or even iconic US band The Killers playing ‘Mr Brightside’ in concert after an England football win. Autumn Aesthetic #Brat summer is officially over (according to Charli XCX herself), which means it’s time for falling leaves and cosy cardigans to ring in the Autumn season. On TikTok, we’re seeing an outdoorsy core beginning to emerge: introducing the Pacific Northwest aesthetic, or #PNW, which has already generated over two millions posts on the platform. Inspired by film and TV series such as Twin Peaks and Twilight, Pacific Northwest is all about the rain, fog and forests you come across on the US’s North West Coast. For fashion, think Patagonia fleeces, Birkenstocks, flannel shirts and hiking shoes. Pop icon Sade is also having another well-deserved moment. The Nigerian-British singer released her seminal debut album, Diamond Life, in 1984, celebrating its 40th anniversary this July. We’ve even seen icons like Kelly Rowland and Kim Kardashian wearing vintage Sade tees, with searches for the #SadeAesthetic increasing on TikTok, too. Home Comforts The days are getting shorter, and with summer coming to an end, the TikTok community is preparing by making the most of the great indoors. Enter #CozyGaming, which relates to video games designed to be relaxing and meditative, while making players feel comfortable and safe. Including games such as Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, they feature activities like farming and gathering, with cute characters, pastel colours and cheerful music — count us in. Creators are sharing how they’re upgrading their home offices and ensuring that they have a good place to study, which has seen a new trend emerge: desk scaping, aka the art of creating aesthetic home working spaces that serve a purpose. People have been sharing step-by-step accounts of how they like to set up their office space through hashtags including #DeskSetup, #DeskTour and #DeskDecor, resulting in some beautiful finished looks. August Trending hashtags Wedding season continues, and users are taking to TikTok to post about their wedding outfits, with the hashtag #weddingguestdress2024. From brand suggestions to styling tips, creators are helping audiences find that perfect guest outfit for various wedding setups A blast from the past, #Bratz are trending on TikTok. From a TikTok miniseries based on the characters to a viral Bratz filter, the dolls are creating a buzz online, among new Gen Z audiences and nostalgic millennials alike. September is almost upon us, and with that it’s all about back to school style. #tiktokshopbacktoschool is trending, as users share their back to school hauls and recommend everything from pencil cases to the perfect book bag. As summer draws to a close, the TikTok community is thinking about #fallfreshness, thinking about all things autumn, from cosy outfits to Halloween themes. Men’s fashion continues to grow on TikTok, and now #boyoutfit is trending, as menswear creators show of their fits and styling tips for various scenarios. Trending songs Charli XCX — ‘Apple’ With the TikTok community loving hits like ‘360’ and ‘365’, and with Brat green becoming synonymous with 2024 summer, Charli XCX’s latest project is one of the standout releases of the year. Adding to the excitement, a new dance trend — along with a flock of #OOTD content — centred around her track ‘Apple’ is taking the Brat hype to new heights. Video creations: 1.3 million Video examples: The trend, first shared by TikTok user Kelley Heyer, has been embraced by the TikTok community, propelling Heyer’s original video to over 7.5 million views. The Brat dance has since gained even more momentum, thanks to stars like Troye Sivan and Daisy Edgar-Jones sharing their takes on the routine. Sevdaliza, Pabllo Vittar & Yseult — ‘Alibi’ Sevdaliza’s ‘Alibi’ is a global affair, with the Iranian-Dutch artist bringing in French singer-songwriter Yseult and Brazilian singer and drag queen Pabllo Vittar for an upbeat feminist anthem. Video creations: 3 million Video examples: A beginner-friendly dance routine has driven ‘Alibi’ to global virality. Reflecting the track’s central theme of unity, the trend involves creators moving their hips in sync with the catchy tune. Female TikTokers are using the song as an excuse to team up with their closest friends and get involved. LeoStayTrill & Mr Reload It — ‘Pink Lemonade (Str8 Reload)’ The popularity of ‘Pink Lemonade (Str8 Reload)’ has been partly fuelled by the viral ‘should’a just flung my shoulder’ trend, an ode to a dance move that originated in Jamaica and has since gone viral in the UK. The track is also at the centre of a lip-syncing movement that’s been catching on in the US. Video creations: 2.1 million Video examples: ‘Pink Lemonade’ has taken the buzz around LeoStayTrill’s music to the next level, with stars like Dave and Coi Leray selecting the sound for their TikTok videos. The track was promoted by the platform’s SoundOn in-house marketing team and is also at the centre of the ‘should’a just flung my shoulder’ trend, resulting in over 2.1 million creations. Trending videos “Aura” Posts: 1.3 million A term that arguably originated from football commentary, Aura and aura points are essentially used to work out how cool, or not a person is. TikTok's 'aura' trend sees individuals lose or gain hypothetical points based on how good or bad they are at something. South Korean sharp shooter Kim Yeiji maxed aura points according to the TikTok community. “Give me my money” Posts: 66,400 A popular TikTok prank where users prank their friends and family by saying “Just give me my money” out of the blue, often with a funny voice or effect. Many stars have fallen victim to the prank, from Victoria Beckham to Idris Elba. The users typically prompt the person they’re pranking to say it back, before acting unimpressed when they do. “Match my freak” Posts: 41,900 Courtesy of Tinashe’s hit single Nasty, released last month, TikTok users have co-opted the song hook ‘is somebody gonna match my freak?” to share their quirkiest habits and interests on the platform, from taking seven hours to drink a coffee to having crazy long nails. “Demure” Posts: 21,300 “Very demure, very mindful” has become a viral phrase on TikTok, started by creator Joolie Lebron who first used the phrase in a tongue in cheek video about her behaviour in the workplace. Since, users have taken to the platform to advise the community on how to be "demure" and "mindful" in various situations. Trending hashtags The #Olympics have taken over TikTok feeds this summer with the hashtag racking up over 1.2 million posts. While some athletes have been sharing behind-the-scenes footage of their teams, other users have been sharing their favourite events, touching moments of sportsmanship on the podium and ranking athletes based on ‘aura’. From Simone Biles’s Olympic return to South Korean shooter Kim Ye-ji’s breakout social media moment and the tongue-in-cheek ‘Unfortunately I was not selected’ trend, #Paris2024 has triggered many memorable sporting moments. As the event comes to a close this weekend, users are sharing their highlights across 415,100 posts. #TeamUSA has been heading the TikTok race this summer, garnering 125,300 posts so far. Gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik, aka the ‘Pommel Horse Guy’, made waves on the platform after being captured on the sidelines, while Simone Biles is one of the most-memed athletes of the games along with teammate Jordan Chiles — together, the pair have ignited a new era of ‘girlhood’ among female competitors. Following closely on the platform is #TeamGB. Followers: 1.7 million Likes: 15.1 million Micro trends The pandemic might have birthed cottage core and kid core but as ever, the TikTok trend cycle keeps on moving. Royalcore With the second season of Bridgerton and the fifth season of The Crown, followed by Queen of England’s platinum jubilee, the TikTok community is inspired by all things royal in 2022. The hashtag #royalcore has 345 million views. Duke&Jones and Louis Theroux - 'Jiggle Jiggle' During an appearance on popular YouTube series Chicken Shop Date in February 2022, Louis Theroux performed a rap he’d made during his 2002 Weird Weekends episode on rap music. Her videos feature Hermès’s Mini Kelly bags and Louis Vuitton vanity cases to Byredo fragrances, caviar and first class flights. One of the most popular videos is a tour of the Louis Vuitton flagship in London. @guyfierisuperfan is a New York based fashion writer and producer. Having previously worked in fashion under an international creative director, she has an inside track on the industry and provides her audience with hot-takes and analytical musings on fashion marketing, trends and shows. One of her most popular videos is an analytical review of Robert Pattinson’s March 2022 GQ cover shoot. @violetezedimora is a style influencer who creates eclectic high-fashion looks from her home in London. Originally from Nigeria, London-based Ezedimora combines her family life with her fashion prowess. Her most-liked posts include a pregnancy styling video and a personal account of announcing her pregnancy to her husband. @andreacheong_has been sharing her expert knowledge in sustainable fashion with the TikTok community, and teaching users how they can all shop more mindfully through her “Mindful Monday Method”. @curlyfrysfeed is a fashion creator that aims to break common fashion boundaries, from gender to the meaning of luxury. Some of his most successful videos feature him styling an entire look out of bin bags or showing audiences that anyone can wear pink or paint their nails. @oldroseinbrooklyn is a New York-based fashion critic and trend forecaster. Credited with coining microtrends including indie sleaze, she recently quit her full-time job to focus entirely on her career as a creator. Popular video formats include debunking common fashion rules and where they came from, such as “don’t wear navy and black”. Hashtags Styling and outfit content remains popular. The hashtag #fitcheck has 10 billion views, as many show off their outfits on the platform, usually adding garments and accessories gradually to build a look. Niche brands and small businesses are trending with Gen Z. The hashtag #supportsmallbiz, started by TikTok, has now hit 5 billion views. Gen Z are keen to uplift independent entrepreneurs in fashion and beyond. TikTok users want an inside scoop on luxury experiences. Hashtag #firstclass, where users show first class flights and other luxury experiences, has 781.3 million views. Hedonistic shopping is trending, from fashion to food, the hashtag #treatyourself reached 1.3 billion views in March as TikTok users encourage each other to go purchase that piece of clothing or accessory they've been thinking about for a while. Many Gen Zs like to buy-less-buy-better when it comes to fashion. The only brand to make the trending list for February/March was #Yeezy. Amid social media controversy, Kanye West’s streetwear and sneaker brand is front of mind for TikTok users. The hashtag has 2.9 billion views.
