The age of online disruption has given way to a time of uncertainty and confusion in luxury retail. In The Future of Shopping, Vogue Business editors will unpack what comes next for e-commerce, social commerce and Web3, what will happen to the malls and the high streets, and how consumer behaviour will change.

In the inaugural episode, we turn the spotlight on what has happened to luxury e-commerce. Farfetch, Matches and Net-a-Porter once dominated parts of the market with a powerful mix of must-have brands. But the boom years of rapid expansion were dogged by rising costs and an addiction to discounting, which eroded profits.

We are now at a tipping point: Matches has collapsed into administration, Farfetch is being restructured following its fire sale, and Richemont is still trying to offload the loss-making Yoox Net-a-Porter group. To discuss what happened and where we go from here, Vogue Business’s executive European editor Kirsty McGregor is joined by Elizabeth Von der Goltz, whose CV features 14 years at Bergdorf Goodman, followed by several high-profile roles in luxury e-commerce, including global buying director at Net-a-Porter; chief commercial officer at Matches; CEO at Browns and chief fashion and merchandising officer at Farfetch.
